“Compassion hurts. When you feel connected to everything, you also feel responsible for everything. And you cannot turn away. Your destiny is bound with the destinies of others. You must either learn to carry the Universe or be crushed by it. You must grow strong enough to love the world, yet empty enough to sit down at the same table with its worst horrors.” – Andrew Boyd, Daily Afflictions: The Agony of Being Connected to Everything in the Universe
“If you are a poet, you will see clearly that there is a cloud floating in this sheet of paper [assumes you’re reading this in a book]. Without a cloud, there will be no rain; without rain, the trees cannot grow, and without trees we cannot make paper. The cloud is essential for the paper to exist. If the cloud is not here, the sheet of paper cannot be here either…
If we look into this sheet of paper even more deeply, we can see the sunshine in it. If the sunshine is not there, nothing can grow. In fact, nothing can grow. Even we cannot grow without sunshine. And so, we know that the sunshine is also in this sheet of paper. The paper and the sunshine inter-are. And if we continue to look, we can see the logger who cut the tree and brought it to the mill to be transformed into paper. And we see the wheat. We know that the logger cannot exist without his daily bread, and therefore the wheat that became his bread is also in this sheet of paper. And the logger’s father and mother are in it too…
You cannot point out one thing that is not here — time, space, the earth, the rain, the minerals in the soil, the sunshine, the cloud, the river, the heat. Everything co-exists with this sheet of paper… As thin as this sheet of paper is, it contains everything in the universe in it.”
— Thich Nhat Hanh, The Heart of Understanding
Reality is an infinitely interconnected web of differences, where each “node” exerts a force on infinitely many other nodes, and so on, ad infinitum. There is no central node, such that the web is perfectly decentralized. Such that you cannot even say that the web exists, because “existence” is just one more node in the web. Such that “the web” is one more node in the web.
Which is why you can’t grasp it with mind. The only way to grasp it is to become the whole thing.”
The heart and the brain are two of the most important organs in our bodies. Western cultures see the brain as the domineering force, while eastern belief systems point to the heart as the primary control center. There is an intrinsic connection between the two that can be used to our advantage by consciously tuning their activity to the same frequency. When we achieve this heart-brain harmony, we can open up pathways to self-healing and an array of abilities we might have never known we had.
“Humans have become so detached from their true nature that we have forgotten that we are nature and connected to every other human, animal and tree etc…
In doing so our soul has become barren and impoverished as we reside in our false created world behind screens, social media, stockpiling possessions, property, careers etc in the hope this will fill our yawning empty souless lives.
Mother nature is our true mother and will not allow us to destroy her with our greed.
We are in a time of dismemberment globally and being offered the chance to start anew, walking in our own power, rejecting the culture and creating new communities with other like minded people. Humans need to be re remembered, why we came here to earth which is of course to love and recreate and laugh and sing and dance. Reject social media, news, government and embrace the things that bring you joy, this will raise your vibration and lift you above the madness of these times.
This will be different for each of us, for me it’s horses, dogs, land, birds, trees and shamanic practices and gratefulness for my life that nourish me.
Make a list of all the things you love to do and that bring you joy and do them each day.
I do hope these words are helpful to you and enable you to step onto your path to being your true self, walking in beauty in the world.” – Anonymous Email From A Shaman
